Hoewel het format en de naam in de loop van de tijd veranderden, bleef „Telejurnalul” een belangrijk referentiepunt voor het avondnieuws. Daarnaast heeft TVR 1 voortdurend culturele programma’s, documentaires en educatieve shows uitgezonden, waardoor het bijdroeg aan de informatie en educatie van het publiek. Een goed voorbeeld hiervan is de langlopende show „Teleenciclopedia”, die nog steeds een begrip is in Roemenië.

Naast het informatieve aanbod is de programmering van TVR 1 voortdurend aangepast. Het station heeft geprobeerd nieuws te combineren met amusement en cultuur, waarbij een gevarieerd aanbod voor een divers publiek werd geboden. Sinds de jaren 2000, met de opkomst van commerciële televisiezenders, begon het kijkersaantal van TVR 1 geleidelijk te dalen, maar het publieke station bleef met succes belangrijke nationale en internationale evenementen uitzenden, zoals verkiezingen, de Olympische Spelen en het Eurovisie Songfestival.

Een belangrijk aspect van de activiteiten van TVR 1 is de landelijke distributie, die het hele land bestrijkt via digitale ethertelevisie, satelliet, kabel-tv en via IP-technologie. Daarnaast kan het station ook online worden bekeken, waardoor kijkers, inclusief die in de diaspora, eenvoudig toegang hebben tot de programma’s.
